M&A Legal Tips And Best Practices: The Role of an Attorney

An attorney is a part of your deal team that focuses on mitigating risk.

That's our goal. We're mitigating risk. We're not generally involved in the numbers, finding the business, and assessing whether the deal is for a fair price.

Although we have exposure to these things, that's more for people like you. What we're trying to do is, if there are existing problems, making sure they're addressed upfront before closing. Through all that paperwork lawyers do, we're setting things up so that if something goes wrong, there is recourse for the buyer or seller after closing.

Risk mitigation is our number one job.
